What is Public Health?
Butler County Public Health offers a variety of different programs and services to the residents of Butler County.

Here is a sample of what we offer:

  • Skilled Nursing: Nursing visits to patients in their homes to teach and train, administer meds, tube feeding, catheter care, wound care, ostomy care, rehabilitation nursing (many activities included in this category).
  • Health Promotion: Include visits to new moms and babies to offer assistance and give available resources, provide some teaching regarding childcare, immunizations, etc. Also includes visits for health teaching regarding various disease processes to all ages.
  • Home Care Aide/Homemaker Services: Nurse Aides providing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Services include personal cares, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation and patient assistance with exercises. Many other service activities are included in this program as well.
  • Immunizations: All immunizations are available in the office, at schools or in private homes. Infants, children, adolescents – DTAP, OPV, IPV, HIB, Varicella, MMR, Hep B, and Td. (Donation requested). Office clinics are on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Adults- Flu, Pneumonia (fee), Td (donation), Hep B (fee).
  • Case Management: Assess needs, arrange for those needs to be met, assist with making appointments for needed services, coordinate services.
  • All Waivers: AIDS/HIV, Elderly, Ill and Handicapped, Brain Injury and MR. We provide nursing, home care aide, homemaker and respite services under the waivers.
  • Community Assessment: Assessment of community to determine needs and assist in program planning.
  • EMS: Butler County Public Health is coordinating the Butler County EMS Association and their services.
  • Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program: Services for mammograms and PAP smears fro women 49-64 years who meet income guidelines. Outreach, education, Women’s Health Fairs.
  • HOPES: Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success – Visits to parents of newborns and young children to offer parenting sessions to improve parenting skills to prevent child abuse and neglect. Use RN’s and HCA’s.
  • Agri-Safe & Certified State Farm: Provide programs to promote health prevention for ag-related health problems.
  • Foot Clinics: For ages 55 years and older. Assess for intact skin and circulation. Provide nail care and education for care of feet.
  • TATU & JEL: Teens Against Tobacco Use & Just Eliminate Lies – Our facilitators train teen role models in the dangers of tobacco use and they, in turn, take this tobacco prevention message to elementary students.
  • Transportation: Parish nurse car available for transportation to medical appointments. Volunteers to assist with transportation for medical appointments. Volunteers may be enrolled as HVAAA drivers and receive mileage for transporting people. Donations are suggested for all riders.
  • PATS: Parents as Teachers program. We have a contract in all four counties through Empowerment. There is a Parent Educator in each of the four counties. We provide supervision and oversight of the program.
  • HAWK-I: Work to promote the program especially among those who might be eligible. Visit the schools, doctors, churches, etc.
