From rivers, lakes, and streams, to forests, trails, and prairie plots, the Butler County Conservation Board invites you to explore and enjoy the diverse resources of the camping areas that we manage for public use.
Facilities in the parks include electrical hookups, running water, and in most cases, flush toilet and shower facilities. These conveniences make your stay in our county parks more enjoyable.

Conservation Shop

This 14-acre area is the location of the Conservation Board shop. Located one mile south of Clarksville on Timber Road, east of Highway 188, the area has access to the Shell Rock River, a boat ramp, and picnic areas for use by the public. Straddling the Shell Rock River, Heery Woods State Park is part of the original tract of land belonging to the first landowner in the county. After becoming a state park in 1935, workers of the WPA were used to develop the park. They built a dam, the original shelter house, and the stone lodge located on the south side of the river. Today the park is under the management of the Butler County Conservation Board. Located just south of Clarksville on Highway 188, the park provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, biking, and hiking. The camping area features electrical hook-ups for 20 trailers and flush toilets. In 2005 the park was improved with a new showerhouse and paved bike trail that leads to the Rolling Prairie Trail. A nature center, with many hands-on exhibits, is located on the south side of the river near the lodge. Nature center hours vary with the seasons but are generally 1-4 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.
Camp Comfort Recreation Area
23525 Camp Comfort Road, Greene
This 2- acre area is one of the most popular areas operated by the Conservation Board. Located south of Greene and east of Highway 14 along the Shell Rock River, this park offers excellent recreation opportunities. Fishing for Walleye and Smallmouth bass below the dam is excellent as is fishing for catfish above the dam. The area has boat ramps and canoe access both above and below the dam, a large shelter house, and camping facilities with electricity for 30 trailers as well as an area for tents.
Wunsch Memorial Park
Rowley Street, Greene
Located just below the dam along the Shell Rock River in Greene is the 1.2 acre Greene Recreation Area. A popular area, this park offers electricity flush toilets, running water, access to the river, a boat ramp and shelter house. Water above the dam is deep enough for pleasure boating. The location of this area is within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, museums, the city park and the Spirit of Greene Paddlewheel.
Shell Rock Recreation Area
22562 Main Street, Shell Rock
This 40-acre area located on the west edge of Shell Rock, was one of the very first areas purchased by the Conservation Board. Hiking trails, a playground, and a shelter house are just a few of its' many features. The area has 20 electrical hook-ups, flush toilets and showers. The Shell Rock River offers fishing, canoe access and a boat ramp. The oxbow lake on the west edge of the park was recently dredged and will offer increased fishing opportunities for a variety of species both during the summer and winter.
Beaver Meadows Park
32078 Highway 14, Parkersburg
Located on the north side of Parkersburg along Beaver Creek, this 32-acre area was once a state park. Today the park is owned and managed by the Butler County Conservation Board and offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Fishing for Smallmouth bass, catfish and Northern pike are good in Beaver Creek. Electrical hook-ups for 20 campers, flush toilets and showers, and a shelter house are available at the park. Visitors to Beaver Meadows are also within walking distance of museums, fine dining and a golf course.
