The Butler County Assessor’s Office in Allison, Iowa, is seeking a full-time Field Appraiser. The primary duties include locating, inspecting, listing, and appraising residential, agricultural, commercial, industrial, multi-residential and/or exempt properties that are subject to valuation. This position will also assist in the day-to-day operations of the Assessor’s office.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

• Measure the perimeter of all residential buildings.

• Make a careful inspection of each structure and list all pertinent data on a field worksheet; data will include items of construction such as foundation, basement area, exterior walls, roof type and roofing materials, floors, number of rooms, attic and basement finish.

• Interviews taxpayers to explain basis for current assessments and assists them in listing.

• Assists property owners in applying for homestead tax credit and military tax exemptions.

• Good knowledge of building construction practices and of building and land values.

• The ability to read and understand building construction plans and specifications photographs and blueprints.

• The ability to exhibit good judgment, accuracy, integrity, pleasing personality, good physical condition.

• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners, representatives from other agencies and the public.

· Maintain and hold a valid driver’s license.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Associate degree in a related field and two years of experience in assessment, appraisal or building trades is preferred; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to make mathematical computations with accuracy in computing appraisal values, knowledge of current real estate market values, construction costs, and exemptions and credits. Be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both oral and in writing.

Provides administrative support and assistance to the Conservation Board Executive Director to ensure the efficient operation of the Conservation Department. Manages and coordinates business operations with the responsibility of multiple functions, which include overseeing the Department’s on-line reservation system, accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly revenue reports, monthly expense reports and customer service.

Qualifications:

Experience in business administration or related field is preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including word, excel, power point and outlook.

Acquire and maintain valid state of Iowa Driver's License.

Job Description:

The Butler County Conservation Board is now accepting applications for seasonal Conservation Intern position. This position will assist with general park maintenance, trail maintenance, and habitat establishment.

This is a great opportunity for students working towards a degree in the Natural Resource Field. While some mowing and trimming is required, a majority of the time is spent assisting full-time staff with projects and general maintenance. Employees will be given the opportunity to learn how to operate work-related equipment including chainsaws, tractors and skid loader. Employees will work an average of 40 hours a week with some weekends and holidays required. Work setting is primarily outdoors in areas such as campgrounds, public hunting areas, prairies and preserves, bike trail and shop. 

Salary:

$11.00 to $13.00 per hour

Job Description:

The Seasonal Assistant Naturalist is sponsored by the Butler County Conservation Board and is based at Allan and Fayette Meyer Nature Center. The naturalist intern is under the supervision of the Butler County Conservation Board Naturalist. This program seeks to develop the intern's practical skills in environmental education and interpretation, to stimulate personal growth and development, and to increase the intern’s background and interest in environmental education, natural history, ecology and conservation of natural resources. The seasonal naturalist will receive valuable, practical experience and continuing education during employment.  

The seasonal naturalist will assist the Butler County Naturalist with developing, planning, organizing and presenting environmental education and outdoor recreation programs. The intern will also help with special events for the public, schools and other community groups. The seasonal naturalist will work the equivalent of a full-time assignment on a flexible weekly schedule.  

Other major duties include:

- Planning, assisting and leading summer day camps

- Designing interpretive and promotional materials

– Digital media skills (social media, website development, video editing, etc)

- Create and improve displays at Allan and Fayette Meyer Nature Center

- Writing newsletter articles and press releases

- Nature Center maintenance and animal care

- Develop at least one new educational activity and one interpretive exhibit or other teaching aid for permanent use in the Butler County Conservation Board environmental education program.

- Other projects and duties may include nature center host, resource management activities, professional development opportunities, radio interviews, etc.

Salary:
